The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a civilian agency of the U.S. Department of Defense. DoDEA's schools serve the children of military service members and Department of Defense civilian employees throughout the world.

It is the policy of the DoDEA to neither encourage nor discourage DoD sponsors from home schooling their minor dependents. DoDEA recognizes that home schooling is a sponsor's right and can be a legitimate alternative form of education for the sponsor's dependents. Clutter seems to have become a way of life, and homeschoolers have a great excuse to collect anything and everything vaguely related to education. This is ironic because, as Dr. Montessori discovered, a cluttered and/or chaotic environment hinders normalization/education. This problem can arise when the materials 'take over' and the attitudes and method fall into second place. An orderly, inviting environment is more important than a large variety of trays and/or materials, especially for young children. It is better to have one or two that demonstrate each concept well.

Good news for homeschoolers who want to receive NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) scholarships and participate in college sports! Homeschoolers have finally been recognized as high school graduates by the NCAA. Homeschool students no longer have to go through the “waiver process,” but can now register in the same manner as “traditionally schooled” graduates.
